Deaf Kids' Kamp (1992-2009)
Terry Sproul had a dream.  It began when he was 8 years old and he wanted to go to camp but he was deaf!  His deaf friends refused to go to camp because they were afraid they would not be able to communicate, yet Terry had the time of his life.  It was then that Terry decided when he got older he would open his own Kamp for deaf children ONLY!

Terry and his wife, Buffy, started the "Deaf Kids' Kammp" in 1986.  In 1988, it became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (ID Number: 77-0184815).

Sadly, in December 1994, Terry died of a massive heart attack at the age of 44.  Buffy kept his dream alive, and since 1992, Sproul Ranch has provided a FREE one-week residential kamp to over 700 deaf children.  Our last Deaf Kids' Kamp was in 2009.

Hot Air Balloon Festival (1999-2005)
We provided a Hot Air Balloon Festival as a fundraiser for the Deaf Kids' Kamp.

We are once again offering our Las Vegas Hot Air Balloon Festival to be held November 11, 12 & 13, 2001, to benefit "Deaf Kids' Funding" Program.

Closing the Chapters
In 2010, three of our staff were diagnosed with terminal diseases.  The Board of Directors decided to close these chapters and implement a new venture with little or no physical exertion.  And that is how the "Deaf Kids' Funding Program" was born in 2011.

What is Deaf Kids' Funding Program?

About Deaf Kids' Funding
In this economy with parents losing jobs, houses, and their financial savings -- life goes on, but activities and educational opportunities seem to be compromised or discontinued.

The Board decided that we should provide grants or scholarships to deaf students to help pay for:  Educational needs (tuition, books, uniforms, fees for events, lab fees, and miscellaneous expenses), extra curricular activities (sports, science lab, cheerleading, special projects, etc.), food, gas, hearing aids, batteries, clothes, or any other necessity that may be deemed necessary day-to-day.

Recipients
Sproul Ranch, Inc., will send applications to the former deaf kampers, schools in Southern California and Southern Nevada who accommodate deaf students, and organizations that are affiliated with the deaf community, and advise them of our new venture, "Deaf Kids' Funding" Program.
If a deaf individual (between 6-25) is interested in being a recipient of our program, he/she will complete the application and write a one-page synopsis of why he/she feels the need to be a recipient and how much they would like to receive.

Twice per year, and funding being available, Sproul Ranch, Inc., Board of Directors and former Silent Weekend and Deaf Kids' Kamp staff will meet and read the synopsis papers submitted.  They will vote on the recipients.  The recipients chosen to receive the funding will be notified, and one of the Staff or Board members will present the check to the recipient in person and a photo will be taken to put in the following year's brochure with a brief story of why that particular recipient was chosen.

Sponsoring
We hope that you will dig deeply into your pockets to donate to our "Deaf Kids' Funding" program, realizing, once again, this will change the lives of deaf individuals (6-25) -- as did Silent Weekend and the Deaf Kids' Kamp.

For your generous donation, ALL sponsors receive:  (1) Your name in our 2011-12 Deaf Kids' Funding Program brochure; (2) A certificate of appreciation; (3) a photo of our recipients; and (4) a tax deduction allowable by law.
MOST IMPORANTLY, the knowledge that you helped to provide deaf children and young adults with an educational experience and/or activities that helped to achieve their personalities and make them a better citizen.

For a donation of $1,000 or more, in addition to the items above, your name will be printed on our shirts and given to all sponsors, recipients, and staff by athe end of each year.
